Ranger Battalions Association of WWII Scholarships

General: The Ranger Battalions Association of WWII RBA is seeking qualified candidates who are descendants (direct or adopted) of WWII Rangers to compete for one of the $750.00 awards to be applied towards the chosen applicants' educational needs. The award money for the successful applicants will be sent directly to the applicant's educational institution for administration. For this first year of the program applications for the fall semester/quarter must be received by 15 July (the date for subsequent years will be 1 May).

For the spring of 2008 the deadline will be1 January. The RBA program has joined with that of the National Ranger Memorial Foundation (NRMF) as part of the continuing mission to support the Ranger community, past, present, and future. Endowment fund(s) have been created to fund the yearly awards to qualified applicants. The funds will be transferred to the NRMF for support of the program. While there are strict criteria as to who may apply, the scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants without any preference to race, creed, color, ethnic origin, or religion. Awards will be made to promising high school seniors (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale) who have been accepted by a state accredited two- or four-year educational or technical institution. Students already enrolled in an accredited institution who have demonstrated academic ability (3.0 GPA) can also compete for the award. Financial necessity is not a factor in awarding the scholarships.

To apply, you will need to submit two copies of a completed application form, - official copies of your last transcript, - two letters of recommendation from non-family members, i.e., teachers, coach, clergy, etc. The sender should mention his/her title or capacity - a short, (two page maximum) essay covering career goals and aspirations as well as awards, honors, volunteer activity, etc. Ranking will be based on all the above. (Note that the program and requirements of the RBA program are very slightly at variance with those of the NRMF.) Applications must be postmarked and received by 1 May for consideration for the fall quarter or semester and by 1 January for the spring. Applicants will be notified within six weeks. One copy of all application materials must be sent to the RBA Scholarship Committee and one to the NRMF committee at the following addresses:

RBA Scholarship Committee, c/o Jerry Styles, 2615 Mars Hill Church Road, Acworth, GA 30101 And one to: Ranger Memorial Foundation, ATTN: Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 53369, Ft. Benning, GA 31955

RBA Scholarship Committee will make appropriate recommendations to that of the NRMF for funding. For additional information, please call Frank South (302-366-0365) or e-mail to fsouth@udel.edu.
